Austin’s official bilingual STEM nonprofit Latinitas announces the promotion of Vanessa Batz to the position of Communications Manager, a first time position at Latinitas. Majoring in public relations at Texas State University holding leadership positions in a few student organizations, Batz started at Latinitas working in programs using those skill sets to equip the next generation of digital producers to find their voice and amplify it through as many channels possible.

As a program leader at Club Latinitas and later during Camp Latinitas, Batz taught dozens of girls and teens how to do game design, publish a podcast and even assemble their own laptop. She accelerated the ranks to Latinitas Social Media Coordinator, managing, amongst other promotion demands, Latinitas’ Amplify Austin fundraising campaign for the first time and helped raise the most the organization has ever in its history.

Batz has taken Latinitas’ signature branding and messaging to new levels with an authentic style and content that spotlights the furthest reaches of LatinX news and talent. Her features are inclusive, current and make Latinitas true to its word to empower all girls to innovate using media and technology.

Batz was promoted to Communications Manager this month and will be tackling program, event and organizational communications plans, internal and external communications and continued messaging that elevates the relevance and achievement of BIPOC girls and women/non-binary/those who identify female through all Latinitas’ channels.

Latinitas board member and Nonprofit Product Manager at Facebook Veronica Penaloza Wolfermann explains, “Vanessa is an inclusive and creative marketing leader. Curious and organized she is receptive to learning new things and de-prioritizing things that do not work. She is a strong and open communicator, informing of deadlines, roadblocks and always down to discuss creative ideas. I appreciate how she actively challenges with the team to find solutions together.”

TC Waugh, Latinitas Director of Development adds “Working with Vanessa is a real joy. Her creativity, artistic eye, enthusiastic writing, and attention to detail always ensure that her work is above par, time after time”
